Slippage

Trouble Shooting > Slippage Between Gears

Symptom: Transmission is Slipping

Automatic: The engine revs up during shifts as the throttle is depressed, however the car does not accelerate. The more you press on the gas pedal, the more noticeable the problem is.

Manual: As you step on the clutch, the engine revs, but the car does not accelerate. The clutch seems to be slipping. This problem gets worse with time and should be taken care of immediately to prevent additional damage to the clutch assembly.

Possible Cause:

Automatic: Slipping is a problem that will become worse. If it is not fixed soon it will create excessive friction and heat production, thus leading to major repairs. Call our service manager (425) 397-6111 to get extra trouble shooting help.

  • Fluid level is low or incorrect type of fluid
  • There is an internal problem in the transmission
  • Electrical controls are failing
  • Clogged transmission filter

Manual: Clutch slippage will cause clutch surface damage. If not fixed, slipping will result in major repairs. Call our service manager (425) 397-6111 to get extra trouble shooting help.

  • Needs adjustment
  • The clutch is worn
  • Internal transmission problem
